Every October, during Labour Weekend, the Society hold one of New Zealand's premier solo piping contest.
These competitions are held at St Andrew's College in Christchurch with the Novice to B Grade events held on the Saturday, the MSR Silver Chanter event on the Saturday evening, all Open Grade events on the Sunday and the MMSSRR Clasp event on the Sunday evening.
With prestigious prizes and trophies on offer, this contest regularly draws a large number of solo piping competitors, including some from overseas.
First established in 1976, these championships enjoy international attention in the piping media and often feature some of the most accomplished judges in the world.
The weekend culminates with the elite March, Strathspey and Reel Silver Chanter and Clasp events, which are restricted for pipers of the highest quality.
However, with scores of events spread across the grades, there's something on offer for pipers of all abilities.
