The recitial will include traditional bagpipes as well as small pipes! The prestigious Piper & Drummer magazine claims that Jim McGillivray is one of the best all round pipers EVER!
Solo piping prizes include the Gold Medals at Oban and Inverness, the Clasp at Inverness, the March/Strathspey & Reel at the Glenfiddich Championship as well as the North American Championships.
For 10 years in the 1970’s, he played a prominent role in the Guelph Pipe Band’s rise to the top rank of premier bands, leading the band in 1981 to it’s second North American Championship. From 1988-1982, he was a member of the groundbreaking 78th Fraser Highlanders, winning three more North American titles.
Jim is an active international piping judge. He has adjudicated at the Clasp at Inverness, the Gold Medal and Senior Piobaireachd at Oban, The Bratach Gorm at the London Piping Sociey Contest, the March/Strathspey and Reel at the Glenfiddich Piping Championship as well as numerous competitions across North America.
Our next solo piping competitions are to to be held on Sunday, 9th August 2009 at the Arts Block, St Andrews College, Corner of Normans and Papanui Roads, Christchurch. The events will include an Open Grade South Island Piobaireachd Championship Event.
Our next recital evening will be held on Saturday 8th August 2009 at St Andrews College, Senior Lounge, Corner Papanui & Normans Roads, Christchurch commencing at 7.30 pm. Admission $5.00

Callum Gilchrist, Richard Cox, Liam Kernaghan, Simon Fraser and Harry Hawke entertained the crowd with a wide variety of music from traditional, to modern, and even a combination of both with Mary McLeod starting off in traditional form, and transposing into a variety of rhythms and tempos. The appreciative crowd chose Harry Hawke as the winner with Liam Kernaghan hot on his heels and Callum Gilchrist keeping the heat on.
