The 2010 Silver Chanter Solo Piping Championships will be held 23 and 24 October 2010. The judges for the weekend are: Brian Switalla, Stuart Finlayson, Bain McGregor and Alan McKenzie. The weekend will commence with a dinner on Friday night, 22 October 2010 for the 50 year Birthday Celebration of the Highland Piping Socity of Canterbury. A book written by Gordon Ogilvie and Alex Thomson will be launched at the dinner together with piping entertainment.

Location: St Andrews College, Arts Block
Richard Cox, Simon Fraser, Callum Gilchrist, Harry Hawke and Nicola Sharp performed a March/Strathspey & Reel followed by a medley of their own choice. The entertainment included original compositions, piobaireachd, an outstanding 6/8 march, plus a wide variety of airs, strathspeys, reels, hornpipes and jigs. Every competitior gave a creditable performance and the final result was determined by the audience who voted for the fast fingers and sparkling bag cover of Nicola Sharp, who has recently arrived from Australia and attends St Andrews College.
